At 6 Months Old

Baby's Brain:
Many new connections between the nerve cells in your baby's brain are forming as you share experiences with him. As these connections are made, his brain grows to 50% of its adult size.

Baby Will Begin To:
Explore the environment by mouthing, shaking, banging, and dropping toys. Develop healthy sleep habits which allow him to sleep through the night. Learn that his actions cause things and people to respond.

Ideas for Parents:
Give your baby safe toys and other objects to explore with his hands and mouth. Happily play the game of "pick -up" when your baby drops toys on the floor. Establish a soothing bedtime routine that encourages your baby to go to sleep.

"When will my baby sleep through the night?"
"Should my eighteen month-old be using more words?"
"He's not potty trained yet. What can we do?"
